Injuries are a fact of life in football, there is pretty much nothing you can do to avoid them other than looking after your players as best you can.

Every player in every squad will get injured eventually and all you can hope for is that your best players are not ruled out long term.

Players are 'struck down' in every league around the world, but the physicality and pace of the Premier League could make picking up a knock more likely and clubs have had to deal with their top stars being out already.

With only five Premier League fixtures gone the treatment tables as various clubs are getting busier and a number of managers are having their squad depth tested greatly.

Most clubs can handle a few absences and will have recruited accordingly to cover for that, but losing one of the star players in your team will always be difficult to account for fully.

GMS have taken a look at the injury list in England and identified the five players whose absences have had, or could have, seriously damaging consequences for their teams.
