Barcelona star Javier Mascherano is set to miss his side's Champions League clash against Celtic next week, reports Sky Sports.
The Argentinian midfielder-come-defender suffered a thigh injury in the second minute of Barcelona's 4-1 La Liga win over fellow Champions League side Real Sociedad.
The 29-year-old will miss his side's league trip to Almeria at the weekend as well as the trip to Celtic Park.
Mascherano's injury leaves Barcelona short for defensive options, with Gerard Pique the only recognised fit centre-back. Full-back Jordi Alba and club-captain Carlos Puyol are still sidelined.
Barca's defensive woes could give 22-year-old Marc Bartra the opportunity to impress manager Gerardo Martino. Barta replaced the crooked Mascherano against Sociedad and could be handed a starting role.
The Spain under-21 international has made only 12 league appearances for his club but does has a wealth of experience having played over 80 games for Barcelona B over the last three seasons.
The Catalan side got their European campaign off to the perfect start last week with a 4-0 win over Ajax. Barca will be looking for revenge over Celtic in their next match having lost to the Scottish side 2-1 in the exact same fixture last season.
