Arsenal will make a 'significant bid' for FC Basel defender - and reported Tottenham Hotspur target - Fabian Schar, when the transfer window reopens in January, according to the Daily Star.
The 21-year-old centre-back has attracted admiring glances from a number of clubs across Europe, with reports in Italy also suggesting that Inter Milan are monitoring Schar's situation closely.
Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is ready to launch an attempt to lure the Switzerland international to the Emirates Stadium, and hopes to beat both Inter and north London rivals Spurs to the in-demand star's signature.
Andre Villas-Boas is also keen on bringing Schar to White Hart Lane, but will have to match whatever offer Arsenal make at the turn of the year.
After helping Basel to the Swiss title for the fourth consecutive campaign in 2012/13, Schar - who scored four goals in 21 appearances last term - has seen his reputation grow even further, following an impressive performance in the recent Champions League victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
Borussia Monchengladbach complete the quartet of clubs ready to battle for the player's services in January, with FC Basel readying themselves for a host of bids from Germany, Italy and England.
