FIFA 14 marked its North American launch with a specially arranged glamour match between hip-hop superstar Drake and New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill, with the latter triumphing after an epic 178 minutes.

Drake and Cahill - with the former playing as Real Madrid and the latter his own employers - could not be separated after 90 minutes of action, with the duo playing out a 2-2 draw before beginning another game on a first-goal-wins basis.

Another 88 minutes was required before the deadlock was able to be broken, with Cahill managing to find the golden goal to settle the tie at the official EA Sports FIFA 14 launch party.

Cahill tweeted after his victory: "Game over #Teamcahill VS #TeamDrake and the Aussie came out on top."

Drake may have lost the encounter with Cahill, but the Canadian recording artist was riding high after the release of his third album Nothing Was the Same - a follow up to the massive Take Care - was released on Monday.

FIFA 14, meanwhile, launches in Europe on Friday after its early release in North America.
