Juan Mata could be the subject of an ambitious bid by former club Valencia, according to the Metro.
The Spanish star has been out of sorts at Chelsea and with Jose Mourinho openly admitting to preferring Oscar as his no.10, speculation has been rife about a possible move away from Stamford Bridge.
Arsenal and Tottenham amongst others have been linked with offers for the player, but now Valencia, whom Mata played for before his switch to Chelsea, have joined the list of potential suitors.
It is thought that the Spanish outfit, who have had to sell numerous players in the last few seasons to accommodate for their financial problems, are talking to local sponsors and businesses to raise funds for a £25million offer.
Mata is a crowd favourite at Valencia and may be tempted with the guarantee of first-team football aiding his bid for a World Cup place.
Whether or not Jose Mourinho will allow him to depart Stamford Bridge remains another question, but if Valencia lodge a substantial bid ahead of their competitors, it's not unthinkable that Mata would return to familiar surroundings.
