Arsenal's most talked about front-man, Nicklas Bendtner, finally made his long-awaited return to the Arsenal first-team in last night's victory over West Brom.
The Capital One Cup game finished 1-1, even after extra time, and it was left to Arsenal to win in the penalty shoot-out.
Goals from Thomas Eisfield for Arsenal, and last round's hat-trick hero Saido Beharino for West Brom meant extra time was needed.
Wenger fielded an inexperienced team for the cup match, with debutants Isaac Hayden, Kris Olsson and Chuba Akpom all featuring for the Gunners.
Although Bendtner didn't score, he did manage to grab an assist and looked lively as the spearhead of the Arsenal attack.
Wenger spoke to reporters after the game and was happy with the big Dane's performance: "I thought overall he had a good game."
"For a guy who has not played for such a long time, and on his own up front, he did very well."
Wenger continued by outlining what he has to do to stay in the first-team fold.
"One thing you don't question too much with him is his confidence."
"I believe for Nicklas, the most important thing for him is to stay fit. As for the rest, he has the talent."
"It is important that he is now consistently present and works hard physically. He has top qualities."
Bendtner's performacne was almost marred in the 8th minute, when he ran into the goalpost. A Rio Myiachi cross was just too long for him to reach, but his momentum and desire to get on the end of it meant he collided with the post.
But he recovered well to put in a solid performance and even score his penalty in the shoot-out, leading Arsenal to a 4-3 win.
Bedntner posted a photo with Thomas Vermalen to his Instagram account after the match, accompanied by the following message to fans:
"Very emotional return, but what better way than with a win! Fans was absolutely incredible throughout the game and help us in difficult periods. For myself I was very moved by my reception and hearing my song again made my heart skip! Young players did ever so well and kept there cool in a difficult penalty shootout. Respect! Skipper looking fresh!"
