Rickie Lambert could be sold in January
Mauricio Pochettino to continue Saints clear out
Southampton striker Rickie Lambert could be sensationally sold in January by manager Mauricio Pochettino, according to Goal.com
The 31-year-old has become something of a Saints legend during his four years at the club which has seen them rise from the bottom of League One to the Premier League.
Lambert has been a key part of that success by hitting 94 league goals from 171 outings.
His personal rise was capped recently when England manager Roy Hodgson called him up to international duty where he has two goals in three games, having only made his Premier League debut at the age of 30 after a career in the lower leagues.
However doubts are now being cast over the former Bristol Rovers player's future.
It is believed that Pochettino, who took charge midway through last season from Nigel Adkins, is concerned that the powerful striker hasn't got what it takes to play in his preferred style of football.
Southampton spent big money in the summer to lure Italian international striker Pablo Osvaldo from Roma.
While the duo have started together for the last three games, neither of them have scored in the partnership.
In fact Lambert has more goals for country than club so far this campaign, he only has one goal, a penalty in the opening fixture against West Bromwich Albion.
The Argentine manager has bought in a number of new players since he took charge as he looks to stamp his own authority on the team and employ a fluid brand of football.
And now Pochettino could look to offload one of his most trusted players in January as they look to get as higher fee possible for the striker who turns 32 in February.
There is likely to be a number of suitors for the England international who was the highest scoring Englishman in the Premier League last year, barring Wayne Rooney.
