James Milner - Manchester City

Fashionable? No. Effective? Yes.

Since the summer influx of foreign talents at the Etihad - players such as Fernandinho, Jesus Navas and Stevan Jovetic all made big-money moves to Manchester - Milner's pathway to the first-team has been blocked.

Though he has his critics, the England international is a versatile and effective player who, this season at least, has been under-used by new boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Perhaps Milner's reputation of a hard-working grafter who makes up for a lack of ability through endeavour has finally preceded him - after all, Pellegrini has made it abundantly clear that he wants to win and win in style.
