Manchester United showed how the champions respond to adversity by beating Liverpool by a lone goal in the Capital One Cup third round on Wednesday.
Before the game, pundits tipped David Moyes' men to bounce back from Sunday's heartrending derby defeat at Manchester City and also avenge their 1-0 loss to Liverpool earlier on in the season - that they did.
The win will no doubt help the new United boss put Sunday's loss behind him and also renew in the minds of the players the belief that as champions they sure can take on any team on their way to retaining the Premier League crown this season and perhaps clinch one or two other laurels.
United must note that there might be no further room for complacency as it is already getting past dawn in the Premier League. The league is now in full swing, so the momentum gathered from Wednesday's win - though in the Capital One Cup - should be carried into their next fixtures.
If they take their foot off the pedal any further, the gap at the top of the table could widen. The Red Devils cannot afford to play catch-ups as they are yet to develop the mental strength under Moyes to do such.
Under Sir Alex Ferguson that might just be feasible but presently, it is very unlikely. With the transition from the Ferguson era already taking its toll on the team, trying to play catch-ups with title contenders would overstretch a team already strained by the change of manager thus increasing the pressure on the players - something Moyes would want to avoid.
