Peter Schmeichel has called on Manchester United fans to give David Moyes time to grow in to the role as manager.
Manchester United have had a shaky start to the season, having lost twice in the league already, and fans started to question whether the former Everton manager was the right man to fill the Old Trafford hot seat.
The Red Devils rectified their loss to Manchester City at the weekend by beating Liverpool 1-0, thanks to a Javier Hernandez goal, in the third round of the Capital One Cup.
Despite the fans worries, Schmeichel has backed the Scot to prove a success at Old Trafford if he and his squad is given time.
"We always knew that whatever happened after Sir Alex, it would be a bumpy road. Someone had to be really brave and take that job," Schmeichel told Sky Sports News.
"We knew every little thing that he does would be scrutinised and reported on in the media. It would be a debate - is he good enough?
"Has he got a few games left before he loses his game? He signed a six-year contract, there's a reason behind the six years."
Moyes, who was in charge at Goodinson Park for 518 games winning 218, was criticised over the summer for his teams lack of activity in the transfer window - United secured the signature of Marouane Fellaini on deadline day.
Schmeichel believes the current squad is still good enough to retain their title and speculation that the squad is not good enough is well wide of the mark.
"People in football have short memories. The start of last season is the same as this season you know," said the 49-year-old Dane.
"We played relatively few number of games and had two defeats one at Everton then Spurs at home and we still managed to win by 13 points.
"I listened to the radio on the way here and they're saying it's not even a top four squad, and I'm thinking 'guys where do you get this from?"
