The idea of Juan Mata sitting on the bench just doesn’t make sense to Chelsea fans.

After all, he was their player of the season for two consecutive seasons.

They have a compelling case, but so does the man in charge of the team, Jose Mourinho.

Mourinho made it abundantly clear that he can only play one No.10 at a time.

Unfortunately for Juan Mata, Oscar has made that position indisputable.

If Mata is drifted wide to play as a winger, he usually cuts into the midfield, hence, depriving the team the width and speed Hazard and Shurlle will provide.

It is a dilemma that Mourinho handled perfectly – Oscar is his preferred player to play the supporting striker role, and that is it.

The Portuguese manager has a particular system he wants to adopt, and if Mata cannot adapt or start playing better than Oscar, then he should start thinking of leaving or accept his fate.

As a manager, Mourinho looked at the big picture and decided what was best for his team.

Great managers are known for such difficult calls.
