The MLS is a rapidly growing league. It has hosted some of the world's former greats and at the moment is a destination for the best of players to end their careers.
However the young American players are developing and are transforming the league into a much more competitive division.
The move that made football fans question just how much the league has advanced was Clint Dempsey's arrival in the summer transfer window.
Dempsey joining the MLS while he is still in commendable form, is a sign that the MLS is evolving.
One team in particular are proving that the MLS is moving forward is the Seattle Sounders. Dempsey's club have a fantastic team full of talent.
Their rise to the top of the league is bringing them deserved publicity and raising attendances at the Century Link Field stadium. Their team consists of some well renowned players such as Obafemi Martins, Clint Dempsey, Eddie Johnson, Marcus Hahnemann and Brad Evans.
Sounders currently sit first place in the western conference on 50 points from 28 games. Only a couple of months ago they were paces behind the rest of the league sitting below the play offs but having hit a purple patch they now sit top.
The typical 4-4-2 formation is used by the American club, with young Omar Neagle left wing who often finds himself inside the final third and lately has bagged a few goals himself.
Out on the right they have the experienced Rosales who often will provide the multitude of forwards with inch perfect deliveries. Rosales also has a phenomenal understanding with Eddie Johnson if Rosales is to find him it usually will trigger a decent opportunity.
Martins is a nightmare for the American defences with his lustrous pace often navigating him one on one with the keeper. His pace is utilised with the formation that they play.
Martins will be receive many balls from the centre of the park and also the wingers will distribute balls just in front of him putting trust in the pace of Martins.
Dempsey is arguably the most illustrious talent in the Sounders side. Dempsey is dangerous just outside the 18 yard box, tricking defenders and offloading shots.
Dempsey is positioned striker in the Sounders XI but can also entertain the left wing position and is also effective playing as the second striker where he can make his mark on the game and provide the attackers with the ball, but still having a reasonable amount of freedom to see him shoot himself.
With this pedigree of talent no wonder the MLS is attracting more and more fans.
Next up for the Sounders is a tough home game against the New York Red Bulls - another team challenging for the Supporters' Shield.
