Southampton manager Mauricio Pochettino has rubbished suggestions that he is looking to move on club talisman Rickie Lambert in the January transfer window.
The rumour, which was started by Goal.com, took Pochettino by surprise in today's press conference ahead of Saints' game against Crystal Palace this weekend.
When the suggestion that he would be willing to sell Lambert in the forthcoming window was put to the Saints boss, he was taken aback and responded to quash the talk.
"I don't understand these rumours and I don't want to," Pochettino told the press. "I thought this kind of thing only happened in Spain."
Since joining the club in August 2009, Lambert had established a reputation as a fans' favourite at St Mary's Stadium, scoring over 100 goals in four seasons as Southampton returned from League One to the Premier League.
Lambert has started all of Southampton's five Premier League fixtures this season, scoring one goal in the process - with his only effort of the season being a last-gasp penalty winner at the Hawthorns to defeat West Brom.
Southampton boss Pochettino handed Lambert a new three-year deal in March 2013.
