Kenny Dalglish believes Liverpool will be right to offer controversial striker Luis Suarez a new contract, reports talkSPORT

The Uruguayan international, who returned to first-team action last night after a 10-game ban for biting Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic, seemed destined to depart the club in the last transfer window.

The striker declared his intentions to leave the Anfield outfit as the Reds' Premier League rivals Arsenal made a bid for the star.

However, Liverpool's managing director Ian Ayre confirmed that the club will hold talks with the player over the possibility of extending his contract with the club.

And, ex-Reds chief Dalglish has backed the club's decision to try and tie down the star.

Speaking to Drive Time, Dalglish said: “I think it’s an excellent decision.

“I think they should lock him in a room until he signs it. It’s a no-brainer if you’re looking for footballers.

“If he wants to be at the club he will be. Luis Suarez will decide that, not anybody else.

“Liverpool don’t want to get rid of him. They don’t want him to go. He and Steven Gerrard are the two iconic players at the football club at the moment and they want them to stay there for as long as they want to be there."

Dalglish also believes that there isn't one club that would turn down the chance to have the Uruguayan in their side.

He continued by saying: “I think any football club would be much better off if they’ve got Luis Suarez. He’s a fantastic player. He’s had a couple of problems but if you judge him purely on football, which we should be doing, then he is a fantastic footballer.

"There is no football club who would say no to Luis Suarez.”

Suarez could make his return to Premier League action this weekend as Brendan Rodgers' side take on Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
