It is a difficult task to end a season with zero wins and 16 losses. Indeed, some would argue that it is harder than winning the greatest prize in the NFL - the Superbowl.
But, somehow, the Jacksonville Jaguars have defied all expectations and are heading towards a season with 16 losses.
There was an instance not so long ago in the 2008 NFL season where the Detroit Lions became the first NFL team ever to finish a season with 0 wins and 16 losses. It was as if the NFL gods cursed the team and made them so bad that 16 losses was simply inevitable.
Is it possible to have that much bad luck in one season? They say you make your own luck, but surely there was some kind of divine intervention for the Lions organisation?
Dan Orlovsky, the starting quarterback for the Detroit Lions that season, completed the amazing feat of running out of his own end zone and gifting the opposing team two points as his team headed for another loss. Shockingly, he had no idea that he had run out of the end zone. That is worst of the worst stuff right there, absolutely comical.
So, with that in mind, let us go back to the Jaguars. They have a pretty poor quarterback too. In fact, they have two pretty poor quarterbacks.
The named starter, Blaine Gabbert, will be coming back to play this weekend. He has the worst quarterback rating in the league and in his only start this season he led the team to a whopping zero points in a 28-2 loss. It took a special teams play for the Jaguars to get some points on the board.
The back up, Chad Henne, has earned the nickname 'check down Chad' for his inability to throw the ball more than five yards. Last weekend, he led the team to a 45-17 loss against the Seattle Seahawks. The rest of the team is pretty poor too.
Of the other couple of teams that are at zero wins and three losses, the Jaguars look to be the worst.
It's pretty hard to be on the all-time losers list, as even the most pathetic teams can find a way to win or draw at least one game in the season.
I can only hope the Jaguars stay off that list.
