Cristiano Ronaldo has pleaded for charges against a fan who hugged him on the pitch to be dropped.
The Real Madrid star was confronted by the enthusiastic Ronald Gjorka, a 20-year-old Madrid fan, during his side's pre-season game against Chelsea in Miami.
But the Portugal captain has wrote a letter to the Miami Police to persuade them to drop the charges.
Gjorka was taken away by police after a long embrace with Ronaldo and subsequently charged with trespassing and disorderly conduct. The fan faces being removed from college and sent back to his native Albania but may escape this punishment after the Madrid man stepped in.
Ronaldo's letter to the American authorities said: "I understand your position and the importance of enforcing rules and law.
"However, I respectfully request that you and your office reconsider this decision and dismiss the two criminal charges this young man faces."
With Ronaldo gearing up for the weekend's Madrid derby between Real and Atletico - Gjorka's future has not yet been decided.
