One club players are rare and precious commodity.

The old conundrum of player loyalty has somewhat been diminished by the flamboyance of modern day footballers wreaking havoc with their multi-million pound wages.

But let's take a look at the greatest football players to have stayed loyal to one club throughout their entire careers.

Ryan Giggs - Manchester United : 1990 - Present

The now 40-year-old Welsh left-midfielder has made 946 appereances with the Red Devils. The weird thing is that he doesn't seem to want to retire anytime soon...

Xavi - Barcelona : 1998 - Present

The orchestrator in recent years Barcelona's midfield success, he is a provider of quality and longevity. He has delivered perceptive passing and midfield balancing during his 684 appereances for the Catalans.

Steven Gerrard - Liverpool : 1998 - Present

Stevie G is the ultimate hero and go-to man for Liverpool. The current captain, a graceful midfielder with great reading of the game, good positioning, exceptional passing skills and superb vision. He has made 636 appereances for the Merseyside club.

Francesco Totti - A.S. Roma : 1992 - Present

Roma's biggest hero and most loved player ever, the Italian forward is also the all-time most appeared and all-time top scorer for the club of the Italian capital.

Paul Scholes - Manchester United : 1993 - 2013

Scholes is certainly one of the best midfielders of his generation, with his clean touch and endless passing range. He made his last appereance with United on May 2013, against West Brom.

Tony Adams - Arsenal : 1983 - 2002

Such was the leading and commanding presence of the one-club man Adams that he is known as "Mister Arsenal" amongst the fans of the Gunners.

Billy McNeill - Celtic : 1957 - 1975

Scotsman "Cesar" is loved by those affiliated to the club and was voted by the fans as their greatest ever captain. He made close to 800 appereances with the Hoops.

Giacinto Facchetti - Inter Milan : 1960 - 1978

Facchetti is considered the greatest Inter Milan football player of all time and as one of the greatest left-backs to ever play the game. Fans revere him as a God in the Nerazzurri religion. 

Franco Baresi - A.C. Milan : 1977 - 1997

Undoubtedly one of the finest central defenders ever, Franco Baresi spent the entirety of his beautiful career at the San Siro with Milan. He made 719 appereances in the Rosoneri.

Iker Casillas - Real Madrid : 1998 - Present

The legendary Spanish keeper is Real Madrid's and Spain's best shot-stopper of-all-time. He has graced the Merengues' posts 655 times till this day, although has fallen down the pecking order recently to Diego Lopez.

Paolo Maldini - A.C. Milan : 1985 - 2009

Paulo Maldini has implemented his name into the club’s grand history as probalby its greatest, leading the defense with his genius tackling and marking skills over the years. He made over 900 appearances for the Rossoneri.

Other great one-club footballers : Sepp Maier (Bayern), Berti Vogts (Monchengladbach), Sandro Mazzola (Inter), Carles Puyol (Barcelona), Santiago Bernabeu (Real Madrid)
