Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero will not be in the squad for his side's visit to Villa Park for Saturday's Premier League clash.
Manager Manuel Pellegrini revealed that the Argentinian international picked up a knock in City's 4-1 victory over local rivals Manchester United last Sunday.
Aguero scored twice in that game but was withdrawn with five minutes to go, however he did not appear to be struggling at the time.
He did not appear in midweek against Wigan in the Capital One Cup and with a Champions League clash against Bayern Munich coming up on Wednesday the decision has been made not to risk the 25-year-old against Aston Villa.
"Aguero finished the last derby in the last play with a small pain, I think it was nothing important but I think it was a risk for him to play three games in the same week," Pellegrini said.
"We will leave him for next Wednesday but he will be absolutely fine."
Spanish playmaker David Silva will also play no part this weekend as he remains sidelined with a thigh strain.
Silva has missed City's last four matches after picking up an injury while on international duty earlier in September but again Pellegrini is hopeful that he will be available for the Bayern Munich game.
"We will see in the week," he said.
