Middlesbrough 8 - 1 Man City

Football News

Another final-day massacre. On the closing day of the season in 2008, while neighbours United were winning the league, City were being humiliated.

The match would prove to be Sven-Goran Eriksson's last game in charge at Eastlands and it was not a good way to go out.

Afonso Alves scored a hat-trick and Stewart Downing scored twice as Middlesbrough ran out 8-1 winners, and it could have been many more had it not been for some impressive Andreas Isaksson saves.

Despite the win Boro ended the season 13-points behind City in the league.

Middlesbrough had been on the receiving end of a 7-0 loss to Arsenal two seasons earlier.
