Manchester United have been linked with a January move for Fredy Guarin after the Inter Milan midfielder's agent revealed the Premier League club's admiration for the unsettled star, reports the Daily Express.

The 27-year-old has endured a difficult start to the 2013/14 campaign at San Siro, and was booed off by his own fans after he was substituted by Walter Mazzarri in last night's 2-1 Serie 'A' victory over Fiorentina.

Guarin gestured angrily towards the Inter fans as he left the field on Thursday evening, but hopes the supporters will forgive him after he issued a formal apology.

"I was angry about the boos, nothing more," explained the Colombia international. "I did not mean to offend anyone and I apologise to the Inter fans."

The fallout has raised doubts over Guarin's long-term future in Italy, with Manchester United boss David Moyes reportedly ready to offer him an escape route to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.

However, Marcelo Ferreyra - who represents the South American schemer - played down speculation of reported unhappiness at Inter, but did hint that Moyes is a fan of his client.

"Fredy is happy at Inter for several reasons. Mazzarri has confidence in him and relies on him to be the protagonist," he said. "The possibility of renewal? I repeat, Fredy is happy here.

"He wants to try and win things here and that's what he is working towards. His contract expires in 2016 and that's all there is to it.

"Did Manchester United try to sign him? I can't say, but David Moyes appreciates him. But for now his head is at Inter, and only Inter."
