Given that it has been coming for some time, Robert Lewandowski’s announcement that he has found an agreement with Bayern over his transfer to them either this January or next summer came as a surprise to no one. However, almost the whole of the footballing world seems to be unhappy about it.

The most obviously, and possibly the most justifiably aggrieved of the unhappy are Borussia Dortmund fans, who worship the Polish international, as well valuing him as one of the most prolific strikers in the world.

Whether or not this is true is of little matter, what does matter is the fact that he is repaying their respect with a move towards the Champions League winners and fierce rivals Bayern Munich, something that leaves those he has been scoring for correctly annoyed and accusing him of being a mercenary.

They are not the only ones levelling this type of abuse at him though, as most of the impartial fans from different clubs consider his transfer to be based on little more than his desire to make more money and make the most of the massive profits the Bavarians turn over every year.

As for Manchester United fans and anyone hoping that Lewandowski might go to their club, they are left with that sinking feeling that comes with the news that what you were hoping would happen hasn’t.

Not that they can justifiably be disappointed, as there would have been very little sense in the Dortmund forward going anywhere but to a club more successful than his own, something that can only be said of the club that beat them in the Champions League final, their south German rivals.

Overall, it seems that the only people happy about the decision are Bayern Munich who not only can now score even more goals than usual and terrify even more defences, but also can continue depleting the ranks of the only team who can seriously have title hopes, just as they did with Mario Gotze a few months ago.
