TNA could have a new wrestling super-power in the shape of the Extraordinary Gentlemen’s Organisation, also known as ‘EGO’.
Following the conclusion of last week’s Bound for Glory Series, in which the final match between the Main Event Mafia’s Magnus and eventual winner AJ Styles was interrupted by the trio of Bobby Roode, Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels; the furious Brit laid out a challenge to any of them to face him in a one-on-one match.
As expected, EGO accepted the invitation, but they were quick to ignore the one-on-one challenge laid out by Magnus and attacked him behind the scenes before the start of last Sunday’s show.
Magnus’s fellow Mafia members – Sting and Samoa Joe came to his rescue – and a six-man tag match was quickly arranged.
But surprisingly it was the Mafia that came up cruelly short in their quest for revenge as, despite dominating large portions of the match, they fell to defeat via Roode’s controversial pinning of Magnus.
It came when Sting looked set to secure victory with a submission hold on Kazarian. Roode surged forward carrying, ironically, the Icon’s own baseball bat that he himself had brought to the ring. As he went to strike the five-time TNA World Champion across the back, Magnus bravely dived in to shield his mentor, taking the blow himself. Unfortunately, Roode seized his opportunity and claimed victory for his team.
With the Mafia down to three members due to the enforced absence of Rampage Jackson ahead of his November match-up with Tito Ortiz, as well as the still missing Kurt Angle, and the Aces & Eights also in inter-club turmoil following Ken Anderson’s unsuccessful title challenge against Bully Ray, could EGO become a new wrestling super-power.
They unsuccessfully attempted to recruit Austin Aries last month as they looked to add more fire-power to their ranks, but they will no doubt be on the lookout to strengthen their claim as the new dominant force within the company.
Elsewhere last week, ODB won her first Knockout’s Title in three years when she defeated Mickie James, World Tag Team Champion Gunner defeated Hernandez in a one-on-one match, Jeff Hardy beat X-Division titleholder Manik.
Former World Champion Chris Sabin was also at the forefront of the Hardy-Manik match as he turned on the masked crusader at the conclusion of the match, only to be chased away by the Charismatic Enigma. He had been watching from ring-side with girlfriend Velvet Sky.
It was a new low for Sabin as he yelled his various list of titles and achievements at a stunned Manik, a cheap shot from a man who has clearly still not recovered mentally from his controversial title defeat at the hands of Bully Ray.
