Manchester United rival Arsenal for Lars Bender

Published 2 Comments

Manchester United will look to rival Arsenal in their bid to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Lars Bender, reports the Daily Star.

The same paper had previously reported that Arsenal are set to offer the Bundesliga an increased amount after having an £18.5m bid rejected in the summer.

It was reported that £20m would be enough to get Bayer Leverkusen to release the player and Arsene Wenger is prepared to meet that valuation when the transfer window reopens in January.

It was also reported that Mesut Ozil has told Wenger that Bender would be an excellent addition to the squad.

However, it is now being reported that David Moyes is ready to offer Bender the chance to move to Old Trafford as he continues his search for four world-class stars.

The Premier League champions were outplayed by West Brom on Saturday and find themselves 12th in the table, eight points behind leaders Arsenal.

Moyes had hinted after the game that they would need a number of world-class stars in order to compete for the top prizes.

He told reporters: "To win the Champions League, you need five or six world-class players."

The Scotsman is keen to make amends at Manchester United after a botched transfer window saw them miss out on a number of transfer targets.

Thiago Alcantara, Cesc Fabregas, Gareth Bale and Ander Herrera were all targets but Moyes failed to bring in any of them, only signing Marouane Fellaini on deadline day.
