The dashing all-rounder last played a game for India against England in Dharamsala in January 2013. He was dropped from the squad for the Champions Trophy and did not feature in the Zimbabwe series either.
Elsewhere in the squad that was announced on Monday, there was no call-up for Virender Sehwag or Gautam Gambhir who have lost their places in the team to due the form of youngsters. The selectors are clearly looking to create a team for the World Cup in 2015.
The fist ODI between India and Australia is set to take place at the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune.
