With the release of FIFA 14 out last Friday and it being a big seller throughout the UK and the globe this weekend, is this the reason football at the lower levels is suffering?
Being able to manage your own team and spending by the million to help secure glory for your club on the game, is it this unrealistic element that is ruining football for the younger generations?
Gate receipts at non-league clubs aren't at the height they used to be. Supporting your local club seems to be no more. They loyalty is lost and I believe that along with other factors, EA - the creators of FIFA - are a huge factor in how footballing times are changing.
Playing a game in which gives you millions to sign all the top names in football around the world certainly won't be boring and hours upon hours are spent sitting in front of the console, in front of the TV enjoying the thrill of the computer game in which arguably doesn't replica the full elements of the game.
Non-league football clubs reply on local fans to come in and enjoy the football whilst also keeping clubs afloat. But with games such as FIFA these games are viewed as non entertaining which, in reality, kills the game at the lower levels.
This game doesn't just affect non-league clubs, but football in general. The game shouldn't resolve around millions of millions at a high level where as the reality for most clubs is pounds and pennies which is the harsh reality of surviving as a club in this current climate.
All these pro's on thousands-a-week all have to start somewhere - at the lower level. The class is there, the goals, the thrill, the joys, the cries of football are here from grassroots through to the the Skrill Premier.
All I can say is please support your local clubs, visit them this weekend rather than playing FIFA for a couple of hours. Enjoy it while you can, before it's too late and you will regret it!
FIFA will always be there on the side, but the local club on your doorstop may not be...
