Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has admitted that Arsenal were interested in his services over the summer, reports the Daily Mirror.

The Spanish shot-stopper eventually signed for Serie A giants Napoli on a season-long loan, but returns to England tonight to face Arsenal in the Champions League.

Returning to the Emirates Stadium, where he has represented Liverpool, Reina recalled the interest that Arsene Wenger showed for him in the summer but insists that is all in the past now.

Speaking to The Sun, he said: "The interest of Arsenal in my services?

"Now I think only of Napoli."

The summer interest from Arsenal was the second time Wenger attempted to sign the 31-year-old after it was revealed that Wenger made a club record bid of £20m for Reina in 2010, only to see it rejected by the Merseysiders.

Arsenal were keen to sign reinforcements this summer to challenge Wojciech Szczesny for the No.1 spot but eventually opted for Emiliano Viviano when Reina joined Napoli.

Reina added he was looking forward to returning to England and admits Napoli are in for a tough game but remain confident of getting a result against the Gunners.

The Spanish international also claimed that a draw would represent a very good result for the Naples outfit.

"To come back to England with Napoli against Arsenal in London is special."

"Arsenal are top of the Premier League but we are second in Serie A - and it looks like developing into a big season for us.

"There is no clear favourite in this game.

"We're very confident but it's a tough group and an away point would mean a very positive result for us."
