Another deliciously bizarre deal concerning West Ham featured mediocre French right-back Faubert. The Frenchman, who joined the Hammers from Bordeaux in 2007, was bafflingly courted by La Liga giants Real Madrid during the winter of 2009.
Despite not proving particularly popular at Upton Park, Faubert completed a dream loan move to the Bernabeu during January that year. His time in the Spanish capital did not prove particularly successful, however, and the 30-year-old made just two appearances during his spell with Los Blancos.
Faubert, who has won one solitary senior cap for his country, returned to West Ham following that doomed loan spell and eventually departed East London for Turkish outfit Elazığspor in June 2012.
