The agent of Tottenham Hotspur defender Vlad Chiriches has controversially claimed that Chelsea could be willing to spend big to purchase his client if he impresses at White Hart Lane.
23-year-old Chiriches only arrived in North London in August after completing a switch from Romanian champions Steaua Bucharest in a deal reportedly worth £8.5 million.
Despite having been at the club for little over a month - during which time he has made just one appearance for Andre Villas-Boas' side - however, Victor Becali already appears to be eyeing a further move across the capital to rivals Chelsea.
"If he has one or two good seasons at Tottenham, Chelsea will be willing to pay a large sum to buy Chiriches," he told Sport.ro in an interview that was quoted by the Daily Express.
"Mourinho says he has been aware of him since he was at Real Madrid."
Chiriches, who has won 21 senior international caps for his country, saw his official move to Spurs frustratingly delayed after difficulties involving his work permit.
After finally becoming available for selection, the imposing centre-back has been an unused substitute in Premier League clashes against Cardiff City and Jose Mourinho's Blues, but did complete 90 minutes during the club's emphatic 4-0 rout of Aston Villa in the Capital One Cup at Villa Park.
Whether Becali's premonition comes true remains to be seen, but with his client yet to establish himself as a first-team regular in the top flight, such outlandish and potentially damaging statements are unlikely to endear Chiriches to the Spurs faithful.
