Arsenal’s French striker claims that his step-by-step approach to the game will one day gain him the recognition he deserves, in the form of the coveted Ballon d’Or.
Giroud, who joined Arsenal from Montpellier last year for a reported £12 million, had a steady first season at the club and has hit the ground running this season, with four goals in six league games.
His early season form has seen Arsenal climb to the top of the Premier League table, currently embarked on a winning streak that’s still going since having lost to Aston Villa on the opening day of the season. Arsenal have also won both of their Champions League games, and sit top of Group F, with Giroud scoring in the win against Napoli tonight.
Giroud believes that he owes all he has achieved to his step-by-step approach to the game. In an interview with France Football, Giroud said: "When I joined the club of course I put myself under big pressure, maybe too much, because I replaced Van
Persie. Frankly, early last season, I didn't make the right gestures, I was tense. I was stiff like a stick.
“What has always made me succeed is the fact I set sensible objectives, I grew that way, step by step. Before thinking about Ballon d'Or, before being part of the top 10 players in the world, I first have to be in top 10 forwards in England.”
"I am starting to make a name for myself among that top 10 and I want to do it this year. That is a short-term objective.”
Giroud added: "Talking about that two years ago, I would have said it was not sensible. Now I am aware I have the right potential to make it."
