Manchester United have accepted an application from a supporter group 'Reclaim United' for a singing section in a bid to improve the atmosphere at home games.

The trial will take place on October 23rd and fans will be allowed a singing section, to be placed where the away fans currently sit, to see how this effects the atmosphere during an evening where the Spanish away support is bound to bring some atmosphere of their own.

Reclaim United's Michael Thwaites had this to say to me when questioned about the new singing section, which was agreed between United and the group Reclaim United.

A statement on Reclaim United's official website states: ''As Reds we've seen the dispersal of those that stood on United Rd who were soaked up by other parts of the ground for a short while, the death of the Stretford End as we knew it soon followed.

"The home of those who wanted to be vocal saw a brief move to the Scoreboard End and an increased repertoire of songs came from K Stand before the majority regrouped again and moved into the new tier of the Stretford End.''

He continued by explaining the stadium's decline in atmosphere.

''The transformation from ground to a 75,000 stadium amongst other well discussed factors has cost the atmosphere," he said.

"That’s not a United problem; it’s a problem in top flight English football. Other clubs have looked at a way forward, as have we. We now have the opportunity to gather a stronghold of vocal support into the L Stand where the away supporters are currently allocated at Old Trafford.

"We now have a chance to home some of our vocal support by the pitch and at the opposite side away from the Stretford End, having a strong support vocally coming from both ends. We can wake up the East side of the ground and we can do it within a closer ear shot of the players. It’s a positive way forward and to us it sounds like it could be some fun which is why we go to the match. That’s why we're urging fellow reds who want to make a difference to help support this.''

Ticket transfers for seats to the new singing section for the Real Sociedad game are now available by phoning the Manchester United ticket office and are selling well; they may well be sold out by the time members who aren't season ticket holder get the opportunity to purchase tickets for the game.

More news and a review of the effects of the new seating arrangement will follow.
