This summer's transfer window was one full of drama, disappointment and, ultimately, huge relief for Arsenal fans.
As the Gunners toiled to no avail in attempts to bolster their squad with several high-profile arrivals, frustrated fans finally rejoiced as the club's self-imposed period of frugal spending finally came to an abrupt halt with the impressive club-record capture of German star Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid.
Although he is still in the early throws of his Arsenal career, Ozil has already proved to be a huge success in North London and the continued achievements of one big-money signing is sure to encourage long-serving boss Arsene Wenger to pursue further targets when the window re-opens for business during January.
One such target that could move to Arsenal in the future is Ozil's compatriot, Julian Draxler. The Schalke midfielder was linked with the Gunners throughout the summer, but eventually remained at Veltins-Arena.
20-year-old Draxler, who has represented the Gelsenkirchen-based outfit for his entire career, provided a timely reminder of his quality during Schalke's Champions League tie away to Swiss side FC Basel last night.
In a closely-fought win that sent Jens Keller's men to the top of Group E, Draxler was the difference as he notched the only goal shortly after the break.
A corner from the visitors was cleared, leaving the ball bouncing invitingly outside the penalty area. Draxler, who has already won seven senior international caps, did not need a second invitation as he rushed forward and dispatched the ball into the top-left hand corner with a devastating finish.
