Roberto Martinez has proven so far this season that he is capable of taking Everton to another level.
After cutting his teeth at Swansea and Wigan, the Spaniard was chosen to take over from the departing David Moyes, who is now in charge of Manchester United.
Everton are now the only unbeaten team left in the Premier League with three wins and three draws; they currently sit in 4th position.
If they manage to maintain their impressive level of performance, they will be in the Champions League next season. Previous manager David Moyes was only able to haul his side into the Champions League places once in his 11 year tenure, so if Martinez manages it in his first season, it will be something of a coup.
The Toffees' credentials this season were highlighted in their 1-0 defeat of Chelsea, however their most impressive display was in the 3-2 win against Newcastle on Monday.
Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku scored two and set up Ross Barkley for his second goal of the season.
Under Moyes, the young attacking midfielder had not scored a senior goal for Everton, but Martinez has managed to raise the teenager's game.
Speaking to the BBC, the manager referred to Barkley as "a diamond of English football."
Martinez also praised the performance of Lukaku, saying that he was "unplayable."
Indeed, if Martinez's youthful side maintain their excellent start, they could be looking at seriously threatening the established teams that are fighting for the top four.
With Manchester United currently struggling in 12th position in the league, Everton will be feeling more optimistic than in previous years.
Additionally, Chelsea are trying to cope with a lack of firepower upfront after Lukaku's move to Goodison Park. Manchester City - Everton's next opponents - have struggled with away form and will be hoping for a confidence boosting victory at the Etihad Stadium.
If Martinez can capitalise on the uncertainty amongst the traditional top four teams, he may find that his name is ushered into Everton folklore.
