Borussia Dortmund will attempt to re-sign Manchester United midfielder Shinji Kagawa in January, according to the London Metro.
The Bundesliga giants have made the 24-year-old their top target when the transfer window reopens in the New Year, and will look to negotiate on the £15million valuation the Premier League champions have slapped on the player's head.
Kagawa left Dortmund to move to Old Trafford last summer, after helping Jurgen Klopp's side to back-to-back domestic titles, though his fitness and form has suffered a severe dip during the past 12 months in England.
After a promising start to his Manchester United career, the Japanese international is now struggling to hold down a regular first-team place, with David Moyes using the playmaker sparingly, and often out of his favoured position in 2013/14.
Last week, Kagawa told reporters he was "fighting for his life" at Old Trafford, but it is thought that failure to cement his place in the side by the end of the year will result in the attacking midfielder pushing for a January exit.
Dortmund fans have already launched 'free Shinji' and 'bring back Kagawa' campaigns, in an attempt to rescue the Asian superstar from his Premier League nightmare.
However, the fact he is under contract with Manchester United until 2016 means that the club will not be forced into a cut-price sale of the underachieving star, but could be willing to accept offers of £10million or higher.
