In his interview to American network PBS, Ferguson said: "They used an agent to approach me when Abramovich first took over the club and I said, 'No chance.'"
Ferguson also took time to comment on rumours of future management, with bookmakers shortening the odds of the retired manager returning to the Manchester United helm in a managerial capacity.
However, the Scot dismissed the speculation that he could replace his under pressure replacement, David Moyes. Instead, he has plans to attend a number of other high-profile sporting events that he couldn't when in charge of the Red Devils.
“I’m not interested in managing again or getting myself worked up about Manchester United’s results. You would be throwing your money down the drain if you put any money on me coming back as a manager," he added.
"I made my decision. The timing was perfect. There is no way back for me now. I've got a new life. I want to go to the Kentucky Derby and the US Masters, the Melbourne Cup. I want to visit vineyards in Tuscany and France."
“United are in good hands with David Moyes. He will be fine. He’s a good manager."
Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down from the helm of Manchester United in May after 26-years in charge of the club. He took over in November 1986, and ended his reign by winning the Premier League title.
During his time at Old Trafford, the 71-year-old won 13-league titles, five FA Cups and two Champions Leagues, as well as countless other trophies during a historic reign.
