Top five: Players to swap international allegiance (1)

Quite a few arguments have been raised over the eligibility to represent countries at international level. Questions such as: how far should the family line run and should citizenship be an acceptable reason? 

This week another player has been given the option to shun his country of birth and play international football for an adopted nation. 

Brazilian born Atletico Madrid striker Diego Costa has been approached by the Spanish Federation after his recent acceptance of citizenship in the country. 

The current joint top La Liga goalscorer made his international debut for Brazil during a friendly with Italy in March - but due to the match not being a competitive fixture -  he is still eligible to switch alliances.
