Roy Hodgson has said he maintains his confidence in Manchester City's Joe Hart, despite the goalkeeper conceding three goals during last night's UEFA Champions League clash against Bayern Munich.

The Three Lions boss insists he isn't worried about Hart and believes he will help England qualify to next year's World Cup.

Hodgson has been quoted on the Mirror Football explaining why he doesn't have any concerns.

He said: "These are the people in the firing line when it comes to confidence, and they're in the firing line when it comes for criticism."

"We don't criticise the midfield player whose mistake has led to the chance in the first place.

"I believe that Joe will shrug this off.

"I'm sure he's not happy with the criticism ... but this is a fact of life.

"As far as I'm concerned he's never let me down and I have every confidence and every faith in him that he will have the confidence to put this behind him."

The former England football player today announced his England squad, and is very happy with the choices he's made.

He said: "I'm very hopeful and very confident that this group of players - as long as they come through this weekend's games - will be the ones who take us there (the World Cup).

"The more choices I have, or the more problems I have selecting a forward line, the better."

The 23-man squad has been a talking point of this afternoon, with Gary Lineker joking on Twitter about the omission of Manchester United's winger Ashley Young.

He tweeted: "Ashley Young has been dropped by Roy Hodgson … or did he dive?"

The England squad is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster, Joe Hart, John Ruddy

Defenders: Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Phil Jagielka, Phil Jones, Chris Smalling, Kyle Walker

Midfielders: Ross Barkley, Michael Carrick, Tom Cleverley, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Andros Townsend, Jack Wilshere

Forwards: Jermain Defoe, Rickie Lambert, Wayne Rooney, Daniel Sturridge, Daniel Welbeck.
