Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic has insisted the Red Devils can win trophies this season, despite their below par start to the campaign, reports talkSPORT.
United have lost three of their opening six Premier League games but earned a solid draw away at Shakhtar last night in the Champions League last night.
And, on the back of the Red Devils' draw in the Ukraine, Vidic has backed his team to come good and make a challenge on the trophy scene this year.
The Serbian international believes United must be at their best in defence and can then think about the hunt for trophies.
Speaking to reporters, the United captain said: "We have to accept it has not been a great start.
"We have not been getting the performances we would have liked and we also have to be realistic enough to accept we have made some mistakes.
"This team has a lot of potential and we are working really well. Sometimes the results don't come. Sometimes the performances don't come. But I am really positive.
"The most important thing is to defend right. If we defend well, I think we have a really good chance to win trophies."
Next up for David Moyes' side is a trip to bottom of the league Sunderland and Vidic has admitted that, after recent disappointments, the game takes added importance.
Vidic continued by saying: "I think this is a more important game. We need to get a few wins in a row.
"The situation is not that bad compared to the teams who you would think will also be competing for the title, or at least the ones who were the favourites.
"We know we have to improve. We know we have to work hard and stick together on the pitch.
"We did that against Shakhtar and hopefully we can do that over the next few weeks because with that kind of mentality we have a good chance to do well."
United will be desperate to take all three points away from the Stadium of Light before the international break.
