Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a blow in their January pursuit of Ibai Gomez, after Athletic Bilbao president Josu Urrutia confirmed the forward is one of four players in line for a new contract, reports the Daily Express.

The 23-year-old has been linked with a free transfer move to the Premier League next summer, having entered the final 12 months of his current deal at San Mames.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas had hoped to reach a pre-contract agreement with the Spaniard in January, ahead of his proposed move to White Hart Lane before the 2014/15 campaign.

However, Tottenham now look like they'll miss out on a deal for Gomez, with the Athletic Bilbao star poised to commit his long-term future to the Primera Division club.

Los Leones will look to tie the player down to a new contract at the earliest opportunity, through fear that they'll not be able to match the offer made by Spurs.

Iker Muniain, Carlos Gurpegi and Andoni Iraola are the other players that Urrutia mentioned are in line for extensions with Bilbao.
