Arsenal legend Ian Wright has lauded Mesut Ozil as having the same effect on the current side as Dennis Bergkamp did when he was bought to the club, reports Goal.
The ex-Gunner was also quick to express his opinion that Arsene Wenger's charges have the ability to be successful this year, citing the German playmaker as the major difference which has boosted their credentials.
Arsenal have now won 10 matches in a row in all competitions, and have not experienced any difficulties since their opening day humbling at the hands of Aston Villa, prompting many to label them title contenders.
The north London side also dealt a massive blow to their closest rivals by completing the signing of Ozil on deadline day for a club record £42.5million, a transfer which Wright believes has given them that little extra something needed to go all the way.
Wright, who was Arsenal's all-time top goal scorer up until Thierry Henry broke his record, also said that the former Madrid man's arrival has had a similar effect to that of Dennis Bergkamp when the Dutchman was purchased in 1995.
"Without a doubt they can win something this year," Wright said.
"If they can keep the injuries to a minimum and keep this vibrancy and energy that Ozil has brought to the club, then they can do it.
"Without a doubt, it’s similar to when Bergkamp joined Arsenal. We’re talking about two world class players, two world class performers. Dennis was an exemplary professional and when he played, my game went up 40-50 per cent because of his quality in every single training session.
"Ozil is the kind of player I’ve been calling for for years. He’s given the squad and the team a boost but I think Arsenal need a couple more. If something happens to Olivier Giroud there could be a problem because he is awesome right now."
