While it may feel like the often tiresome hustle and bustle of the always frenetic summer transfer period has only just died down, such welcome quiet is only likely to be temporary as the window re-opens for business once again in January.

The first month of the year is always a particularly interesting one, especially in the Premier League. While managers typically seek to address their own particular needs and desires sufficiently during the summer, January almost inevitably leads to many taking leave of their senses and panic buying in the hope of achieving their goals.

Although January is still three months away, the rumour mill has already gone into overdrive with rumours and speculation regarding the future of a number of top-flight players already intensifying.

Many of these rumours have continued on from the summer, whereas some have arisen as a result of issues that have come to light in the opening weeks of the season.

Here, GMS lists five players who should resist the considerable temptation to move on and stay and fight for their place with their current clubs.
