Wilfried Zaha left Crystal Palace last year following a fantastic season where he was instrumental in the Eagles' promotion to the Premier League.

But following the move to Manchester United, the tricky winger has struggled to break into the side and has not featured for the senior side since the Community Shield victory against Wigan Athletic back in August.

And Zaha's former boss, Ian Holloway, believes the England international must show he is willing to learn if he is to be given a chance at Old Trafford.

"He has to learn what his new manager wants him to do to get picked and he is obviously not doing it," Holloway told Sky Sports.

"He is a fantastic lad but he has got a lot to learn.

"He is at a huge club, compared to where we are at the moment at Palace. Our fans absolutely loved him but he has to earn that respect up there and I'm sure he will over time."

Zaha, 21, starred in pre-season for the Red Devils but has been unable to force his way into the starting line-up.

And with the World Cup fast approaching, Zaha will need to get some game time under his belt if he is to stand any chance of being selected in Roy Hodgson's England squad.

But Holloway is confident Zaha can adapt to life at Manchester United.

"It is tough for everybody at the start of your career to earn that respect and get your foot in the door and do what your manager wants you to do", he added.

"All I've ever said to him is that is what he has to do and his ability will shine through."

But with Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Nani and Adnan Januzaj ahead of him for a starting berth on the wing, it would seem Zaha may need to venture out on loan if he is to prove his worth.

Nottingham Forest reportedly had a loan move turned down for Zaha recently, with David Moyes instead wanting the winger to go on loan to a Premier League side, according to the Daily Mail.

Former club Crystal Palace will surely be favourites to sign him but there is rumoured interest from the likes of Swansea, West Brom, Stoke and Newcastle.

Regardless of where he ends up, Holloway is confident Zaha has the ability to prove the doubters wrong and become a success at Old Trafford.

"I'm sure he'll do it right and he will be the right player for Manchester United eventually."
