Jack Wishere has taken to Twitter to defend himself after pictures emerged of him smoking outside a club in London last night.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed earlier today that he would speak to Wilshere after he was snapped inhaling a cigarette by the Sun newspaper - although a spokesman for the player insists that he was only holding it for a "prank".
Wilshere first posted a picture of all-time Zinedine Zidane smoking during his playing days before writing: "For the record…I don't smoke"
The 21-year-old has a tough fight on his hands to secure a regular first team spot at the Emirates Stadium following the arrival of Mesut Ozil.
With Aaron Ramsey in the form of his life and Mikel Arteta and Santi Cazorla on their way back from injury the England international may find game time hard to come by. However Wenger assured Wilshere that he remains in his first team plans despite the latest setback.
"He is a very important player here, you know," the Frenchman said. "All my plans for the future at the club have always been built with Jack and around Jack. We had some setbacks with him - a lot - but he is a very important player in my squad."
Arsenal, who currently sit top of the Premier League, take on West Brom at the Hawthorns on Sunday.
