Arsenal playmaker Mesut Ozil has been included in the UEFA Team of the Week after an impressive Champions League performance against Napoli.

The German international midfielder has been a revelation at the Emirates Stadium since moving to north London from Real Madrid at the end of the summer transfer window, and proved his value to the club with an imperious European display.

Ozil opened the scoring for Arsenal in their 2-0 victory, producing a smart eighth-minute finish from Aaron Ramsey’s cut-back to set the Premier League leaders on the road to victory.

The goal was the midfielder’s first for the club, and he had a part to play in the second for Arsene Wenger’s side on 15 minutes, exchanging passes with Olivier Giroud before the French striker doubled the advantage.

The 24-year-old is the second Arsenal player to be recognised by UEFA, after full-back Kieran Gibbs made it into the team after the first round of matches a fortnight ago.

In this week’s team, AC Milan goalkeeper Christian Abbiati has his place between the sticks, whilst Bayern Munich winger Arjen Robben and PSG striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic also made the cut.
