Joel Campbell has been sanctioned by Fifa after his farcical dive against the USA whilst playing for Costa Rica.
The Arsenal star, who is currently on loan to Greek club Olympiakos was widely criticised following his clear simulation during the Fifa World Cup qualifier, which finished 2-0 to the USA.
After going down in an apparent off-the-ball incident involving defender Matt Besler, Campbell appeared to be in agony before sitting up to see if anyone was taking notice before going back down in agony again.
Besler was comically booked for the incident despite not being aware that he accidentally trod on Campbell's foot.
The initial dive is not a problem as proving Campbell was not in pain is impossible. However, Campbell looked up before continuing the simulation and this is what irked Fifa.
Fifa have responded to the incident by announcing the player has been reprimanded for his actions.
A statement said: “We can confirm that the FIFA disciplinary committee has sanctioned the player Joel Campbell of Costa Rica with a reprimand for breaching art. 57 of the FIFA disciplinary code.”
Article 57 pertains to players “who violate the principles of fair play or whose behaviour is otherwise unsporting”.
