It has been a difficult start for Alan Pardew at Newcastle United already this season, with mounting pressure on him to succeed and an already fiery relationship with Director of Football Joe Kinnear, it would appear that Pardew is a bit of a sitting duck for Chairman Mike Ashley to take a shot at. You wonder how much longer the club will give him before he gets the 'heave ho'.
Pardew, who took charge in December 2010 has had a pretty good record up til now with a win percentage of 37% from 128 games he has not done bad at all. When you consider Newcastle are not the free spending club they used to be when they were challenging for honours under Kevin Keegan and in many respects they are one of the clubs that the game has left behind to a certain extent.
The appointment of Joe Kinnear did not do anything to improve the situation, infact it only made it worse, putting the club into further turmoil with his sometimes funny but more often than not just plain embarrassing mispronunciation of players names. Gaffes such as "Derek Llambeezi" (Derek Llambias), "Hatem Ben Afra" (Hatem Ben Arfa), "Shola Amamobi" (Shola Ameobi), and the quite comical "Yohan Kebab" (Yohan Cabaye"). this seemed to create a rift between both Pardew and Kinnear which in turn saw Pardew reprimand Kinnear for his comments and urge him to respect the players in future.
Newcastle, who are currently in 10th in the Premier League have only taken 10 points from the opening 7 games and are in real need of reinforcements. Pardew found the transfer window difficult to attract players to the club with only one notable signing, Loic Remy on a season long loan from Queens Park Rangers. Pardew had to fight tooth and nail to keep Yohan Cabaye from Arsenal and Paris St Germain. Add that to a bit of an exodus at the club, the squad is very thin.
The only thing it would appear keeping Ashley from "parting ways" with Pardew, is the fact that he has 7 years to run on his unbelievable contract which in hindsight is possibly the most naive move Mike Ashley could have made. Joe Kinnear definitely has designs on the managerial role that Pardew holds, you would think it is only a matter of time before Pardew and Kinnear are at loggerheads again and then Ashley will have to change things.
