Manchester United will reportedly sell Alexander Buttner at the first available opportunity after the defender failed to sufficiently impress new manager David Moyes.
Buttner was a surprise acquisition by Sir Alex Ferguson in the summer transfer window of last year, with the Dutchman initially having appeared set to join newly-promoted Southampton.
The player was recruited as back-up for Patrice Evra but, reports the Sunday People, Buttner has not demonstrated enough to Moyes that he is a capable deputy for the France international.
Moyes is now ready to move Buttner on, with the Manchester United boss identifying Fabio as his preferred alternative to Evra when he decides to rest the veteran left-back.
Buttner, 24, has made a total of only 15 appearances in over a season at Old Trafford and could now find that he is sold in the January transfer window.
Reinforcements at left-back, meanwhile, are reported to remain a priority for Moyes, who is still looking to recruit Leighton Baines from former club Everton.
