David Moyes’ Red Devils looked in trouble against cellar-dwellers Sunderland on Saturday evening. The Black Cats were holding firm to an early Craig Gardner goal and United were on their way to another disappointing league defeat.

Enter 18-year-old Adnan Januzaj, seen as one for the future. Against Sunderland, the
youngster proved he may be ready for the Premier League now. Given a start over the likes of Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young, Januzaj showed why so many United fans have been
gushing about. him After an ineffectual first 50 minutes which saw the youngster
only manage a yellow card for diving, the party began.

After 55 minutes, he brilliantly cushioned the ball into Kieren Westwood’s net and it seemed he had made his mark on the match. Only six minutes later, he gave us a glimpse of what may be.

Off of a deflected cross, Januzaj hit an exquisite first-time volley past three Sunderland defenders and well beyond Westwood. After 77 minutes, Januzaj’s night was finished as he was replaced by Valencia.

Just like that, Moyes’ club had been saved; not by Van Persie, but by one of their hottest young prospects. Rightly so, the 18-year-old’s goals will steal the headlines, but his mentality was also superb. After being booked, he could have gone into his shell and played carefully but, instead, the booking seemed to inspire him and he saved the day for United.

Whether or not Januzaj will be able to regularly produce at such a high level will be seen in time, but on Saturday night at the Stadium of Light, he shed some light on just how much quality he has.
