Vicente del Bosque has called up Michu to his squad for their important World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Georgia.
The Swans striker has been in impressive form since his move to the Premier League, bagging 22 goals in his debut season following a £2million move from Rayo Vallecano. He has since netted five goals already this term.
The 27-year-old was picked ahead of Juventus' Fernando Llorente and Tottenham's £26million summer signing Roberto Soldado, and should he feature in either of the games he will be making his international debut.
Michu joins Alvaro Negredo of Manchester City as the only other recognised striker in the La Rioja squad, so unlike earlier in the year when Del Bosque failed to play the frontman having hinted otherwise, Michu could very possibly win his first cap.
Brazil-born Atletico Madrid forward Diego Costa - courted by Liverpool this summer - has pledged his allegiance to Spain, though the fiery striker failed to receive clearance in time to make this particular squad.
