Swansea city striker Michu has received a dream call up for the Spain national team, replacing the injured David Villa, according to Spanish newspaper AS.

Atletico forward Villa was subbed off in the 57th minute in the game against Celta Vigo at the weekend, and has been ruled out of his country's upcoming World Cup 2014 qualifiers.

Michu has never represented Spain at any level and has only come close to a call up once, for Spain’s friendly against Uruguay back in February. On that occasion however he was ultimately unsuccessful and so the recent decision by Vincente del Bosque will be an extremely welcoming one.

After his surprising call up to the squad, Michu tweeted: 'All I say is THANK YOU from the bottom of my heart.'

The former Rayo Vallecano forward, who has largely been a revelation in the Premier League, has impressed at Swansea with his goal scoring abilities many feel his call up is long overdue.

Spain play Belarus in Palma on October 11 and then Georgia in Albacete on October 15.
