Transfer window signings: Most underrated players

Published 2 Comments

This summer transfer was one of the most exciting during recent years with players such as Mesut Özil, Marouane Fellaini and Samuel Eto'o joining new clubs. But there are two signings in particular that have been overshadowed in the social debates, the two that have been underrated.

Mathieu Flamini: At the time, Arsenal fans had just been disappointed once again when the club's numerous bids for Luis Suarez had been rejected and fans were desperately begging for a world class signing....and then they resigned Flamini.

During his run at Milan, Flamini scored just seven goals out of 96 appearances and was part of the team during Milan's downfall. The Frenchman enjoyed only one good season with Arsenal, and his departure did not exactly represent a significant loss for Arsene Wenger.

Fast forward to 2013 and Flamini is not only matching Arsenal's standards, but he is surpassing them giving Arsenal the perfect balance within their midfield making a bigger impact than Manchester United's big signing, Fellaini.

Simon Mignolet: With Pepe Reina joining Napoli on a loan spell, Liverpool's goalkeeper position was left wide open with only Brad Jones as the best keeper in the team. Liverpool fans knew that without a keeper close to Reina's capabilities, Champions League may only be a dream for next season...and then they signed Mignolet.

The 25-year-old Belgian was not what fans wanted, but he has turned out to be exactly what they needed. Mignolet has helped Liverpool rocket back up the table and taken over Tottenham in joining 'The Top Four' brand again.

With players like Daniel Sturridge, Luis Suarez and Steven Gerrard supporting, Mignolet has stepped up to the mark and claimed his spot for Liverpool's No.1 goalkeeper.
